RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- The northern Brazilian city of Natal suffered a devastating blow on Wednesday to their plans of host games throughout the 2014 World Cup.
On Wednesday, the five construction companies selected to propose their plans for the Arena das Dunas did not appear. The happening throws Natal’s project for building a suitable stadium for the World Cup even further behind and in serious jeopardy of being omitted from the list of twelve Brazilian cities to host the event.
Planners hope that the local government will intervene and help the city to achieve a longer term to begin construction on the new stadium.
Initial construction was supposed to begin in May. However, Natal remains to be the city with the largest amount of problems regarding preparedness and fulfillment of dates.
