RIO DE JANEIRO, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Fluminense striker Fred has been ruled out of Sunday's Carioca championship final against Botafogo and next Thursday's Copa Libertadores quarterfinal against Boca Juniors with a thigh injury.
The former Lyon star guaranteed Fluminense's passage to the Copa Libertadores' last eight by scoring the winner in their 2-1 victory over Internacional on Thursday.
But he left the field with muscle pain and medical tests on Friday,confirmed he would miss the decisive matches.
"Fred has already started treatment and is very motivated to return as soon as possible. But he has no chance of playing in the coming days,"
Fluminense' s doctor Victor Favilla said.
Fluminense will also be without midfielder Edwin Valencia who injured his left calf after entering the pitch as a second-half substitute against Internacional.
