BERLIN, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Relegated Bundesliga side Cologne signed coach Holger Stanislawski, the club said on their website on Monday.
42-year-old Stanislawski will thus shape Cologne to ensure a new beginning at second division.
"Holger Stanislawski is a trainer who fits perfect to Cologne. He has also proven with St. Pauli that he can successfully build a team to promote into first division. This quality we need now in Cologne," Cologne vice president Toni Schuhmacher said.
The former professional worked from 2006 to 2011 as head coach of St. Pauli. In the season 2009/2010 Stanislawski promoted into first division with St. Pauli. From 2011 to 2012 he was coach of Bundesliga side Hoffenheim.
"I'm looking forward to this task, although it will not be easy. I promise to give my best," Stanislawski said.
Cologne finished the season on 17th position with 30 points, which is a direct relegation spot.
