PORTO NOVO, Benin, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Kenyans on Thursday swept the top three places in the men's 10,000m at the 18th African Athletics Championships in Porto Novo, capital of Benin.

Kenneth Kipkemoi clocked the winning time of 27:19,74, while Mark Kiptoo and Lewis Mosoti timed 27:20,77 and 27:22,54 respectively.

The top three finishers all broke the championships record set by their compatriot William Sigel in 1993 in Durban, South Africa.

The African championships, running from June 26 to July 1, attracted more than 800 athletes from 51 nations.
