The poll by cnn the Opinion Research Corporation showed that 58percent of Americans believe the president has "a clear plan for solving the country's economic problems," while 42 percent said the opposite.
However, only 24 percent of the 1,023 interviewees said that they have more confidence in Republicans' plan for economy.
The poll was released as the Obama administration, which started on Jan. 20, is reaching its 100-day anniversary.
On Obama's promise for bipartisan cooperation, 62 percent of respondents said that the president was "doing enough to cooperate with the Republicans in Congress," compared to 37 percent for Republican cooperation with Obama.
The result of the Tuesday poll coincided with a separate poll conducted by Gallup, which found that 71 percent of Americans have a "great deal" or a "fair amount" of confidence in Obama to do or recommend the right thing for the economy.
However, the poll did not show the same amount of public confidence in the Congress, with only 51 percent saying they had a "great deal" or a "fair amount" of confidence in Democratic congressional leaders, compared to just 38 percent for Republican leaders.
