KUALA LUMPUR, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia said Monday that it would seek clarification from Singapore over allegations that the city state has played a role in facilitating spying on Malaysia.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it will summon the Singaporean envoy to seek clarification on the alleged spying activities.

The secret documents leaked by U.S. intelligence whistleblower Edward Snowden suggested that Singapore has aided a U.S.-led spying network on foreign communications, with Malaysia being one of the targets, the latest media report said.

Malaysia has voiced concern over earlier report that the United States and Australia were wiretapping Malaysia from their diplomatic missions.

"The Malaysian authorities have taken appropriate actions with regard to earlier allegations of spying by the United States and Australia. The Malaysian authorities are now investigating thoroughly the latest media report about the involvement of other countries, in particular Singapore, in the spying activities against Malaysia," the Foreign Ministry said in the statement.

"It cannot be overemphasised that spying against a good friend and neighbor is unacceptable and goes against the true spirit of and commitment to a good neighbourly relations," it added.
