LUSAKA, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Zambia's electoral body has set December 17, 18 and 19, 2014 as days on which presidential aspirants will have to file their nomination papers, a statement obtained by Xinhua on Thursday said.
Zambia will hold a presidential election on January 20, 2015 following the death of President Michael Sata on Oct. 28 at London' s King Edward VII Hospital, where he had gone for medical check-ups.
Chris Akufuna, the spokesperson of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), said in the statement that the campaign period commenced on November 19 and will end on January 19.
"Presidential aspiring candidates should lodge duly completed and attested statutory declaration of assets and liabilities, oath/ affirmation of Zambian citizenship, declaration of compliance to the Electoral Code of Conduct," he said.
So far, the country's governing party, the Patriotic Front (PF), is yet to select its candidate from 10 party members who have shown interest to represent the country in the forthcoming election, among them Sata's wife and his son.
