BRUSSELS, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- An official from the European Union (EU) called economic reform as essential element for the next Greek president, which failed to be elected on Monday.
Saying in a statement, EU economic and financial affairs commissioner Pierre Moscovici said the Greek people will once again decide on their future through this democratic process.
Moscovici underlined the essentials for Greek revival, including a strong commitment to Europe and broad support among the Greek voters and political leaders for the necessary growth-friendly reform process.
Greek lawmakers failed to elect the next president of the Hellenic Republic in a televised third and final round of a roll-call vote on Monday.
Following the outcome, the parliament is expected to be dissolved within 10 days and snap general elections to be called within a month in late January or early February 2015, according to the Greek constitution.
