BURABAI, Kazakhstan, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev suggested extending the Europe-China highway to more places via Russia's St. Petersburg city during a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev here Friday.
This year the construction of the 2,700-km long highway from the Kazakh-Chinese border to the Kazakh-Russian border will be completed, Nazarbayev said at the meeting held in the village of Burabai, northeast Kazakhstan.
He proposed to continue building this highway further: from Aktobe to Kazan, St.Petersburg and Europe, saying that such a road is much needed by all countries in the region, running through south Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan to connect China and Europe.
Nazarbayev said that in the coming four years Kazakhstan will allocate 14 billion U.S. dollars to for infrastructure construction and a total of 5,000-km roads will be built in the country.
Kazakhstan will also build a 1,200-km railway which will link the Caspian Sea to the Chinese coast, he added.
